How to Make Garden Stone Cookies

The idea for these cookies is based on a full size edible version of a garden stepping stone on Hungry Happenings – Cookies ‘n Cream Fudge Garden Stones. It started me on a path to creating more edible rocks with three ingredients.

Edible Rock Ingredients

When blended together, they really do have the appearance of stone!

Little hands will have an easy time decorating these cookies. Kids can be artistic or messy, just as long as they are having fun! Our garden stones can be decorated in so many different ways with candy and other edibles.

Garden Stone Cookies

The goal is to make something fun & festive for whatever holiday you are celebrating.  Today let’s do something for mom on Mother’s Day.

  • 18-24 store bought or baked sugar cookies (I made 18 (3 1/2 inch cookies)
  • 1 tub Betty Crocker Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Cream Frosting*
  • Optional: 1 or 2 Oreo Cookies
  • Candy to decorate cookies

*You could also just crush up some Oreo Cookies into white frosting.

Directions for Making Garden Stepping Stone Cookies

Step 1

Set the cookies on a cooling rack set over a piece of parchment or wax paper.

Step 2

Open your tub of  Cookies ‘n’ Cream Frosting, and stir in the crumbs. If you want a darker shade of grey for your garden stone cookies, crush one or two more Oreo Cookies, and stir them into the frosting.

Step 3

Spoon frosting into a microwave safe bowl. Heat on high power for 20 seconds, then stir. Heat for another 20 seconds, then stir. If the frosting is thin enough to pour, it’s ready, if not then heat it for 10 second increments, stirring after each until it’s ready.

Step 4

Pour frosting over cookies, using a spoon to spread it out if needed. You may need to re-heat the frosting as you are working. Allow the frosting to set for about 20 minutes.

Now the kids can have fun using candy to decorate their cookies to look like garden stones.

How to Store Garden Stepping Stone Cookies

The cookies will stay fresh for a few days if stored at room temperature.  Place them in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out.
