Supplies Needed To Make Homemade Lip Balm for Kids

*We used a little bit of coconut oil and grapeseed oil in this easy recipe, but you can definitely use sunflower oil, mango butter, jojoba oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and sweet almond oil, depending on the texture you want.

You won’t believe how easy this recipe is!

Directions to Make Tinted Lip Balm Recipe

If you have a double boiler you will need that as well. If not, you can do what I do which is to use a small saucepan and a glass bowl in low heat.

Step 1

Heat water in your saucepan – you don’t want it to start boiling, so just watch it so it doesn’t pour over.

Safety: Obviously, this step will need supervision when working with kids.

Step 2

Put the beeswax, coconut oil and grapeseed oil in the glass bowl and sit it right on top of the sauce pan.

Step 3

For color, grab a tube of lipstick and shave off a tiny amount with a butter knife. The amount you want depends on the color you want. I had a very bright pink shade and so I used very little.

Step 4

Melt all of it together and once you turn the heat off, add in four drops of the essential oils you want to use. I used Lavender because I just love the scent and its antioxidant properties. If you would like the smell stronger then use more oils, I prefer it to be really subtle.

DIY Natural Lip Balm Notes & Variations

  • This makes about 12 pods.
  • If you like the traditional chapstick tubes better, those work well also.
  • For a softer lip balm, you can add vitamin e oil – only a small amount will be enough.

The great thing about making your own products is that you know exactly what’s in them.

With a natural lip balm, you don’t have to worry about all the questionable ingredients and allergens like store-bought lip balms (turns out a lot of them have soy in them.) And as someone who is sensitive and has a lot of allergies and prefers trying a natural product, this is one of the most perfect DIY recipes we can make.
