Today we have a super simple paper plate spider craft that is great for kids of all ages. We are making paper plate spiders which goes with any bug curriculum or for Halloween! With just a few budget-friendly craft supplies, kids can easily create these creepy crawly spider craft paper plates to hang at home or in the classroom.
While we are creating this as an easy Halloween craft for kids, this paper plate spiders craft has year round appeal!
Paper Plate Spider Craft
I love a good paper plate craft because it usually uses things that I already have on hand or I can easily substitute. Manipulating the thick paper of the plate is great for fine motor skills and kids can plan out how they want their paper plate craft to look.

Supplies Needed To Make This Adorable Creepy Paper Plate Spider Craft
- Paper plates
- strong craft glue (or strong tape)
- pipe cleaners
- paint
- googly eyes (or white paper to make your own eyes)
- paper to make mouths and teeth
- string
How To Make This Super Easy and Cute Creepy Paper Plate Spider Craft
Step 1
Paint the back of the paper plate the desired spider color. We used black, gray and some silver paint we had leftover from another project. Because painting is messy, I was glad it was nice outside to paint on the back porch.
Once you have the back of the paper plate painted, let it dry.
Step 2
Get out eight pipe cleaners (or however many legs you want your spider to have) and place a generous amount of glue on the tips of the pipe cleaners.
Make sure you count all the pipe cleaners with your little one!
The pipe cleaners are hard to glue down, so if your glue doesn’t work then feel free to use tape and tape four of them to each side.
Step 3
Add googly eyes…you are going to need a bunch because some spiders have as many as 12 eyes! Kids can choose how many eyes their spider will have.
Step 4
Add a string for hanging!
Our Experience With These Easy Spider Crafts
This is a fun way to get younger kids and bigger kids crafting and learning. We talked about spiders, how many spider legs they have, eyes, and what their purpose in the ecosystem is.
We also made these as Halloween crafts, because…why not? Cute spider crafts can be made into into creepy crawly spiders. They’d be a cute way to decorate a Halloween party in the classroom.
Besides all that, it’s a great craft. You get to paint with black paint, add googly eyes, and long legs to this fun spider craft. You can use pipe cleaner legs, straws, even popsicle sticks or craft sticks for the legs.
It would be fun to make a paper plate spider web or a construction paper spider web to go along with this paper spider crafts.
Adorably Creepy Paper Plate Spiders Craft
Kids of all ages will love making these paper plate spider crafts. They are budget-friendly using minimal and cheap art supplies, and perfect whether you're learning about spiders or looking for a Halloween craft.
Materials
- Paper plates
- strong craft glue (or strong tape)
- pipe cleaners
- paint
- googly eyes (or white paper to make your own eyes)
- paper to make mouths and teeth
- string
Instructions
- Using paint, paint the paper plate. We used black, gray, and silver acrylic paint for this part of the craft.
- Let the paper plate dry.
- Grab 8 pipe cleaners and add glue to the tip of the pipe cleaner. Be generous with the glue.
- Then add the pipe cleaners to the bottom sides of your paper plates. Those are the spider legs!
- Now add your googly eyes or wiggly eyes. You will need a lot because spiders have a lot of eyes.
- Add some string for hanging up your spider.
