Soda Bottle Bat Craft

It’s time to raid your recycling bin to make adorable Soda Bottle Bats, just in time for Halloween! Kids love this craft because they get to transform an ordinary soda bottle into a crafty masterpiece for fall.

These bats look adorable displayed on the front walkway by the family pumpkins. Fill the bottle with gravel or sand after decorating to make sure it doesn’t blow away. This frugal craft is also perfect for decorating classrooms for Halloween.

Supplies Needed

Directions to Make Bat Decorations for Halloween

Soda Bottle Bat Craft

Step 1

After gathering supplies, paint the soda bottle black. I used two coats of black acrylic paint. If desired, seal the paint with clear acrylic spray.

Soda bottle crafts really make everything so easy, any time of year. It’s something my family always has on hand!

Step 2

When the paint is dry, glue wiggly eyes to the middle of the container.

Step 3

Use the scissors to cut bat teeth and wings from the construction paper, then attach them to the bottle with glue.

Step 4

Fill the Bottle Bat with sand or gravel, then display outside during the day or dry evenings.

  • 1 liter soda bottle, washed with the label removed
  • White and black construction paper
  • Black acrylic paint (or spray paint!)
  • Large wiggly eyes
  • Tacky craft glue

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Paint brush

Instructions

1. Paint the soda bottle black. I used two coats of black acrylic paint. If desired, seal the paint with clear acrylic spray.

2. When the paint is dry, glue googly eyes to the middle of the container.

3. Use the scissors to cut bat teeth and wings from the construction paper

4. Attach them to the bottle with glue.

5. Fill the Bottle Bat with sand or gravel, then display outside during the day or dry evenings. 

Notes

To spray paint these, I stuck them upside down on a dowel (in through the drinking hole) so that I could spray it all.
